MOVEMENT Series: Workshop
Category: KANEKO Core Programs • MOVEMENT • Performances • Workshop | Season: Influence
Things That Move Us
Join tbd. dance collective for their first workshop within the MOVEMENT Series. During this interactive workshop, attendees will have the opportunity to not only learn about but also to engage with tbd.’s process of creating movement influenced by objects. The artists will demonstrate choreography created in response to various props and share how they were utilized within performance. Then, through a series of guided exercises and improvisation, attendees will interact with props + objects to create their own movement.
This workshop is open to all levels and abilities. No dance background is required to participate. Those who do not wish to participate in the movement portion, but would like to attend are invited and welcome to observe the process. Seats will be provided for all attendees. Space is very limited and registration is required.
Please wear clothing you feel comfortable moving around in, and bring water to stay hydrated! This workshop is comprised of both demonstration and interaction. The floor we will be moving on is concrete, therefore comfortable and supportive footwear is highly encouraged.
About MOVEMENT: Presented by KANEKO and tbd. Dance Collective, the MOVEMENT series will present site-specific, multidisciplinary performances focused on modern and contemporary dance. Performances will investigate the choreographic process, foster collaboration, and challenge audience perceptions of dance as an art form. There is a universal nature to the human condition; movement found within dance can be one of the most powerful tools of communication we possess and provide the medium in which we connect.
About tbd. Dance Collective: tbd. is a non-profit, modern + contemporary dance collective founded by a group of artists who wanted to create, explore, and perform movement together. Operating under the belief that movement can be a platform for communication and connection, it is our mission to provide accessible dance experiences through performance and education that encourage dialogue and challenge perceptions of dance as an art form.
With a creative process + vision built around exploration, we work with artists and organizations throughout the community to produce multidisciplinary movement based productions that feature site specific choreography and unique collaborations. Our work is highly imaginative, diverse in content and structure, and seeks to discover the possibilities for performance within unconventional spaces.

MOVEMENT Series: mode of being
Category: KANEKO Core Programs • Members • MOVEMENT • Performances | Season: Human Condition
An examination of the shared elements of human nature.
As part of The Movement Series, tbd. dance collective presents mode of being, an evening length production examining the shared elements of human nature. Through movement, dancers will explore the external behaviors, rituals, and patterns we engage in on a daily basis, as well as the internal ability we have to experience life through a range of emotions. These shared acts of humanity are widely varied, but can overlap and intersect – connecting us in ways that can be easily seen, and other times only felt. Mode of being will feature a live, original score, created in direct conversation with the choreography and exhibition.
The performance will take place in galleries on both the second and main floors. The first half of the performance will be upstairs, with standing room only. Audience members will then be asked to move from the second floor, to the main floor. If special assistance, or an elevator is needed, please communicate with KANEKO staff prior to the performance. Seating for the second half is on the main floor. The movement has been specifically designed for the seating arrangement, and visibility will be different depending on where you sit. You will have a unique perspective of the show, no matter where you are seated. Arriving early to select your seat is highly encouraged.
Limited tickets are available for these performances. Once tickets are sold out, there will not be a waitlist or ticket resale. Seating is on a first come, first serve basis.

When Visible
Category: MOVEMENT • Performances | Season: light
We joined tbd. dance collective for When Visible, a MOVEMENT series performance which explored the power of light.
When Visible was an original dance performance which explored the presence and absence of light and the power it has to illuminate and absorb perceptions of feelings and reality. When experiencing light, the mind is often drawn to the visible, however there is an entire spectrum that we cannot see. Using movement, original sound design, and the interactive visual art within the light exhibition, the dancers created an immersive experience that invites audience members to examine the purpose, balance, and existence of both light and darkness and the effect both have on more than just our sight.

Dance Collective
tbd. is an Omaha based modern and contemporary dance collective founded in 2014 by a group of artists and dancers who wanted to create, learn, explore, and perform movement together. The idea of the collective developed organically based on a need for more consistent performance and choreographic opportunities for modern dancers in Nebraska. What began as an unknown, and self-made DIY dance project, quickly grew into an established and recognized fixture in the Omaha arts community. Through organizations like KANEKO and the Under the Radar Festival, tbd. has been able to create performances that challenge audience perceptions of dance as an art form, and facilitate workshops that enrich people’s lives with movement and self expression. Our work is the result of collaborations and relationships we have fostered with artists throughout the community who specialize in lighting, sound, music, visual art, and film. Through these collaborations, tbd. has been able to expand upon the creative process of building choreography and produce multidisciplinary movement-based performances. Our mission is to produce unique and quality art through movement, to collaborate with other artists throughout the community so that our work is both innovative and relevant, to encourage critical dialogue about choreography and performance, and continue the growth and support of modern/contemporary dance in Omaha.
