May Salon is “Getting a Handle on Mentoring With Dr. Randall Bretz”
Mentoring isn’t a new concept, yet it appears to be enjoying a resurgence of interest across the business world, within the halls of educational institutions and even among those who are seeking to help the less fortunate among us. Type in a search for “mentoring” and you’ll be inundated with articles, commentaries, dedicated associations and more information that you can take in. During our time together during this TEDxOmaha Salon, we’ll explore mentoring from a number of angles and hopefully end up being encouraged to engage in mentoring relationships. As one businessman noted recently: Relationships can start through Mentoring so take advantage when you get the opportunity and remember that you become the average of the 6 people you are around the most so choose wisely.
Dr. Bretz (or Randy as he prefers) isn’t new to mentoring, and he certainly doesn’t consider himself an expert on the subject. His talk at TEDxOmaha in 2023 was titled Mentoring Teens at the EDGE of Adulthood, and it resulted in him digging into the topic of mentoring and considering the benefits from both the mentor and mentee perspective. Randy has a background in higher education and business and was licensee of TEDxLincoln for a number of years.
About TEDxOmaha
TEDxOmaha is an independently organized TEDx event. As a part of the global TED community, we connect locally to explore the ideas and situations that affect our cultures, environments, and minds. Most people are introduced to this remarkable collection of human experiences through recorded TED Talks. Through technology, we can hear stories of discovery, heartache, joy, introspection, and imagination from some of the world’s most amazing people. By creating events in Omaha, we produce an experience based on TED’s principles.
Who attends TEDxOmaha? Five hundred of our community’s most curious, forward-thinking people. Activists, artists, philanthropists, modern-day philosophers, policymakers, stay-at-home parents, and more. You, too, can gather with amazing people from our region who share their insights and accomplishments. It helps us witness what is happening – and what is possible – so we can be inspired to take bigger steps together. TEDxOmaha is held annually in October and offers monthly TEDxOmahaSalon events at The KANEKO.
