Omaha Under the Radar and KANEKO are proud to bring you the Soundry Workshop series at KANEKO on July 5 – 8.

Soundry Workshops provide opportunities for musicians and sound artists to explore and create with instruction from contemporary music and composition experts from around the country. Housed in the world-class facilities of KANEKO, Soundry is an opportunity for performers and composers to dive into the world of contemporary and experimental music, hone their craft, meet and work with exceptional professionals in the field, and try something new!

Soundry Explore

Ages 14 – 18 // July 5 – 8 // Cost: $100
Soundry Explore is a one-of-a kind workshop for students ages 14 – 18 to explore and create music. Participants will build unconventional instruments, learn about the art of listening and improvisation, and compose new works for the 21st century. Led by Omaha Under the Radar artists, students have the option to choose from single or multiple sessions.

Soundry Create

18  & up // July 5 – 8 // Cost: $100
Soundry Create is a week-long summer institute for talented musicians interested in modern classical music. Soundry Create will include sessions in composition, improvisation and professional development given by renowned Omaha Under the Radar Festival artists and guests.

Director: Stacey Barelos
The KANEKO Soundry is directed by composer and pianist Stacey Barelos, and includes expert instructors from Omaha and around the country.

Omaha native Stacey Barelos is a performer and composer specializing in the music of the 20th and 21st centuries. Regarding her first solo release, The Midwest American Piano Project, the American Record Guide said, “Stacey Barelos…plays with authority and poetic nuance, her beautiful tone captured vividly in this warm recording…” As a composer, Stacey’s works have been performed across the U.S. and in Europe and Australia. In addition to her concert works, Dr. Barelos frequently writes pieces for her studio. Her recent article, “Composing for Your Students!” encourages other teachers to do the same. Currently, Dr. Barelos teaches piano and composition at the Omaha Conservatory and is the Education Director for the Omaha Under the Radar Festival.
