Inside the Jury Room: Choosing Public Art

This event is a collaboration between MECA RiverFront, KANEKO, and the International Sculpture Center.

Celebrate the unveiling of the newest sculptures in the MECA Sculpture Garden! This opening night event will feature an engaging panel discussion that offers a behind-the-scenes look at the public art selection process. This program features a diverse group of jurors—artists, curators, and civic leaders—who were tasked with reviewing proposals and selecting artworks for the MECA Sculpture Garden on the RiverFront.
Panelists will share their experiences and insights into the selection criteria, deliberation process, and the challenges and rewards of making decisions that reflect the values and identity of a community. Discover how artistic merit, site context, and cultural relevance all contribute to shaping the final selections.  Whether you’re an artist, policymaker, or simply curious about how public spaces are transformed through art, this conversation will shed light on the collaborative effort behind public art and its lasting impact on the places we live and work. Audience Q&A to follow.

Panelists: Johannah Hutchison, Norie Sato, and John Clement.
Moderator:  Jeff Koterba

Exhibition and programming made possible through funding from the Metropolitan Entertainment & Convention Authority (MECA)/The RiverFront.
