Suzuki began sculpting chairs in the 1980s, driven by the challenge of making something that stands on four legs. In 2012, Goro Suzuki received a request to make a horse, which he initially refused. The client’s persistence led Suzuki to begin work on horse forms. The first horse was a small study in preparation for the larger work. The first large scale horse was a success, but larger than the client had requested. Suzuki was diligent and created 4 more horses in the series. He began to enjoy the process and continues to create expressive horse forms which range in scale from horses that fit in the palm of one’s hand to large scale horses.
