Through a hand-building experience, students will focus on imitating ancient forms of small-scale sculptures and objects – like Stele-type monuments, deity figures, stamps, seals, and stylized pottery forms. In addition to handwork, students will have an ongoing discussion of the objects encountered in art historical images, and stories from antiquity. Symbolism and imagery will be explored as it relates to oneself and how we see various communal worlds; the home, family, friendships, and networks beyond. Students will mine content from our lives to find inspiration and consider the objects we use currently and how they connect to those of the past.
Camps are held Monday – Friday 9 AM-4 PM.
Lunch and snacks are provided and we will make every effort to have lunch in our outdoor spaces. If your camper has any dietary restrictions, please let us know after you register by emailing katherine@thekaneko.org.
Camp t-shirts will be provided for each camper- you will be prompted to provide a size when you register.
COVID-19 POLICY: We are uniquely equipped to manage a restricted number of learners due to our large gallery space and have carefully adhered to city, state, and federal COVID-19 guidelines. Campers, instructors, and all KANEKO employees will be required to physically distance and wear masks at all times. Disinfecting stations will be provided in every class space and we have recently installed HVAC plasma filtration products to assure excellent air filtration at all times.
