Explore your inner Kaneko in this brand new ceramics camp.

Campers will learn the foundation of hand-building methods of slab, coil and pinching clay. Activities will be wide-ranging, including ideas about sound, architecture, the vessel, and personal narratives. Students will have the opportunity to discuss current pieces in the KANEKO exhibition, surrounding works in the Old Market, and a tour of the Jun Kaneko studio. Campers should come ready to have a high-energy week that includes quick sketch periods, short gallery and neighborhood tours, and multi-piece explorations of the ideas they bring for each assignment. No prior experience is needed and novice students are encouraged to join. Campers will be lead by ceramics artist and former Jun Kaneko studio assistant Peter Scherr. Children Entering Grades 6-9.

Sponsorship Available: We believe that every child should have the opportunity to explore their creativity! We are so happy that you would like to enroll your child in the Creative Summer Camps at KANEKO; embracing creativity at this age is vital for young learners and leaders. We know that for many families the cost of Summer Camp can be a financial burden that they might not be able to afford, which is why we are happy to offer sponsorship assistance to our students. If you wish to register your child through our sponsorship program, please click the button below. Once we receive your registration, we will reach out to you within a month to let you know what sponsorship you’ve received.

Half of all students who attend our summer camps are sponsored by the KANEKO due to the generous giving of our members, donors and grant giving organizations. Sponsored students are selected based on financial need and they attend our week long camps for free. If you become a KANEKO Friend Member, your membership will automatically sponsor a child for summer camp. Enrolling your child in summer camp will also help support the financial sponsorship of fellow campers.
