KANEKO staff are curious about the world; about how ideas are created and about the exploration of creativity in all its forms. A Community Engagement Intern is an important position that includes assisting in the coordination and execution of the various ways in which KANEKO engages with its constituents, guests and the larger Omaha community. Under the direction of the Community Engagement Manager, the Intern will be introduced to KANEKO constituent relationship management software, our partnership programs, administrative tasks, and assorted assistance with programming. The Community Engagement Intern should expect a fast-paced environment, have strong communication, and organizational skills.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Work under the supervision of the Community Engagement & Public Program Manager 
  • Assist with assorted KANEKO programming, including but not limited to set-up and tear-down 
  • Assist with day-to-day functions of the Community Engagement Manager, including but not limited to filing, organizing, reporting, and internal communications
  • Communicate timely, efficiently, and effectively with staff and any KANEKO partners
  • Be a vocal and productive part of the KANEKO staff team, dedicated to advancing the mission of KANEKO 
  • Engaging in direct communication with other nonprofit organizations as necessary and directed by the Community Engagement Manager
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Community Engagement & Public Programs Manager

LEARNING EXPECTATIONS

Interns can expect the following:

  • To assist in researching various topics related to other area nonprofits and arts organizations
  • To assist in the development of internal programmatic planning and analysis documents
  • To work in supporting strategic opportunities for growth with internal and external partners
  • To assist in the creation of program evaluations and surveys that may directly impact funding
  • To engage in community outreach programs that align with the KANEKO mission and to help provide an evaluation of these programs

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree holder, degree in progress or commensurate experience – scope of field experience or degree should be related to the Arts, Humanities, Museum Studies, and/or Nonprofit Administration
  • Interest in creativity, innovation, nonprofit management and fostering community
  • Have excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to effectively communicate 
  • Ability to work efficiently and without close supervision while multitasking
  • Must be able to change prioritization with fluidity while continuing to meet deadlines 
  • Ability to work a semi-flexible schedule
  • Must have an interest in making the world a more diverse, equitable, inclusive, and accessible place
  • Must be welcoming, professional, honest, and reliable 

SCHEDULE + REWARDS

  • Community Engagement Intern’s schedule may depend on the needs of the intern, the college program, and/or KANEKO needs and will be determined throughout the interview process.
  • Internships may be granted college credit upon approval of an advisor.  It is suggested that the student make arrangements under the guidance of an advisor within the students’ institution if seeking college credit. 
  • Community Engagement Intern is provided with full membership benefits during the time of employment. 
  • Community Engagement Intern will engage in a valuable mentorship during the time of their employment.  This mentorship has the potential to continue after completion of the internship if the intern desires.
