“Play is how we are made, how we develop and adjust to change. It can foster innovation and… allows us to express our joy and connect most deeply with the best in ourselves, and in others.”

– Stuart Brown, M.D., from his book, Play

Research proves that play is vital in providing the mental, social, and physical foundations necessary for success and happiness. In early childhood, play is how relationships are formed, coordination is learned, and creativity is tapped. Play is just as important throughout life, as it is at the heart of problem solving, social interactions, and creativity.

This summer, KANEKO will explore the power of play in our everyday world. The series will examine how, whether at home or at work, alone or with others, play has a role in shaping a happier, more fulfilling life. KANEKO will be transformed into a veritable PLAYground, offering insight into the science and philosophy of play, while providing ample opportunities for visitors to engage in meaningful play themselves.

PLAY will use Dr. Stuart Brown’s philosophy and research as a foundation for the dialogue on the importance of play and how it manifests in a variety of forms. KANEKO seeks to further that conversation with hands-on examples of how play can be nurtured, infused, and enhanced in everyday life – in the home, classroom, office, and community.
