New Music Symposium with John Corigliano
May 16, 2015
KANEKO | 1111 Jones St
KANEKO will host the 2015 New Music Symposium entitled Fresh Ink with John Corigliano from Thursday, May 14–Saturday, May 16.
Pulitzer- and Oscar-winning composer John Corigliano curates a program of his own music and the premieres of works by emerging composers. This three day symposium consists of several workshop readings by the Omaha Symphony of the new works and culminates in a casual and intimate performance at KANEKO.
Through a national call for scores, four emerging composers will be selected for inclusion in the program by John Corigliano and Omaha Symphony Music Director Thomas Wilkins, based solely upon the strength of their compositions. Over the course of the event these composers will have the opportunity to develop and incorporate changes into their work before the final performance. Unique in nature and scope, the program is designed to provide a real-life laboratory setting for emerging composers with a professional orchestra.
Ticket holders for the event are invited and encouraged to attend workshop readings with the orchestra over the three days to get an up-close and personal look at the creative process in action, and witness the evolution of the new works from the first reading to the final performance. At the final performance, concert goers will also be treated to performances of works by Corigliano, a panel discussion with participants, and complimentary refreshments.
Beer-n-bites will be provided by Brickway and Localmotive!
Tickets are $25 and grant access to the following events:
Public Reading #2 – May 14, 7 p.m.
